Bumdra Trek and Hikes
Bumdra Trek is one of Bhutan’s best and shortest two-day treks. This trek was recently popular
in Bhutan. We will be blessed by visiting the two important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in
Bhutan, Bumdra Monastery (cave of thousand prayers) and Taktsang Monastery (Tigers Nest).
One can see the rock of one hundred thousand footprints of Dakinis (angels) who descended
here and left footprints on the rock 800 years ago.

Day 01: Arrival at Paro Airport, drive to the capital city Thimphu
Your flight to Paro will be the eye-catching sight of the highest mountains in the world. You will see great Himalayan peaks like Everest, Kanchenjunga, and Makalu. You will have the first glimpse of the country’s gross national happiness. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, your company representatives from Bhutan Travel Light Tours will welcome and escort you. Our company representatives will drive to the capital city (Thimphu). On the way to Thimphu,
you will stop at Tachog Lhakhang to see the ancient iron chain bridge. Depending upon the arrival time, if time permits, you will have a visit to Tashichho Dzong (The castle which serves as the seat of the king and government). Overnight, stay at Thimphu.
Day 02: Thimphu Sightseeing
Early morning drive from your hotel to Dechencholing base point, where you start your hike to Dodedra Shedra. It is a school as well as a museum. The round trip takes around 5 hours for an average hiker. After visiting, descend back to Thimphu and have lunch. Afternoon begins visiting Buddha Point (gigantic bronze Buddha Dordenma statue) on the mountain overlooking the southern approach of Thimphu town. Take a short walk to see a panoramic view of the
statue. Join with Buddhist devotees performing their daily rituals and prayers at the whitewashed semi-spherical Memorial Chorten. Take a walk from Norzin Lam Street to see the clock tower of Thimphu; interestingly, you will see the traffic police signaling in the heart of the town junction, still, and then continue your walk to the handicraft market where varieties of Bhutanese souvenirs displaced and bought for a reasonable price. The day ends with visiting a handmade paper factory that produces authentic Bhutanese paper. Overnight, stay at Thimphu.
Day 03: Excursion to Dochula passes and drives back to Paro
Today, you will drive to Dochula. There, one can see the panoramic view of Bhutan’s most astounding highest snow-clad Himalayas peaks. It is a picturesque place for a photographer to take a picture of a 360-degree aerial view of 108 Stupas and snow-clad Himalayas peaks. After that, drive back to Paro, where you take your land to the Bhutan route Thimphu through Nyima
Zam bridge to Rinpung dzong, the castle and a monastery. One of Bhutan’s tentative sites in the UNESCO plan lists for future World Heritage Sites. This is where Bernardo Bertolucci film ‘’little Buddha”’ was shot. Just above the dzong stands Ta dzong (watchtower fortress), now converted into the National Museum of Bhutan. On the way to town, stop at the iron bridge maker temple. The day ends with exploring Paro town elegant traditional style of houses. Overnight, stay at Paro.
Day 04: Paro – Start the Bumdra trek.
TREK 6KM |4 – 5 HOURS| 950M ASCENT| CAMP ALT 3800M
After your early morning breakfast, you will drive to Sang Choekor Buddhist College (2890m). At that place, your ponies will get loaded. You can visit the Buddhist college site and receive a blessing for a good journey. From there, your short adventure starts the initial 1– 2 hours. You have to ascend in a thick forest, which can be steep but brings us a stunning view of Paro Valley and Do Chhu Valley. Again, about an hour’s walk away is the Chhoe Chhoe Tse Lhakhang,
nested at the top side of the mountain full of fluttering prayer flags. The trail continues further for 1 – 2 hours to reach your campsite. Your camp will be below the Bumdra Monastery (the cave of a thousand prayers). After lunch, we will visit the Bumdra monastery and explore the best sights. Not only if you are strong enough and have time, but you can also climb north of the peak to find a better view of the place and return to the camp for dinner on time. Take a rest at your camp
Day 05: Bumdra to Paro via Tiger Nest
Enjoy your breakfast at the camp in the morning, and if you need some time to enjoy the view there, take a little extra time. Start the second day of the Bumdra trek by descending through pine and rhododendron forests on the zig-zagging trail. As you descend for 2 hours, you will see a glimpse of the golden roof temples. Before reaching the Tiger Nest, we will come across three temples (Oselgang Monastery, Ogyen Tsemo Temple, and Zangto Pelri). Stop at Zangto Pelri (Heaven on Earth) perched over the rooftop of the Taktsang monastery. The further downward trail leads to the monastery waterfall, and he takes a step to reach the Tiger nest. The most heart-touching landmark of Bhutan. It is renowned in the outside world for its uniqueness and spectacular position. After visiting the site, continue your journey to the Taktsang cafeteria for lunch. After lunch, descend to the base point, where your driver will be waiting to complete the trek. Drive to the hotel and stay overnight at Paro.
Day 06: Departure
Our company representatives will drop you to Paro airport on this day, where your tour guide
and driver will bid you goodbye. It was nice meeting you, and we hope you enjoyed the beauty of
our country.
